Jay Battle

Sculptor
My language in sculpture is informed by the relationship between our built
and natural environments. This reflects an ability to reorder a natural
arrangement of materials as I see our ability to reorder our natural
environments to our advantage.
The main aesthetic in the work is the continuity of line. This may be
represented in the overall shape of the work or in the detail of the imposed
structure or impressions I apply to it.
Bio
Jay Battle was born in Canada and moved to England following an interest
in medieval architecture and sculpture. Years of studying architectural carving
ultimately led to him being commissioned to design and sculpt all the new figures on the West Front of Salisbury Cathedral. This continues with the latest commission of Desmond Tutu in 2026.
He balances historic work and research alongside his contemporary work.
